Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Culotte or skirt for all

Meet Gemma Twin set from Sofilantjes*. It is a great set that includes a top and a bottom. I have made 4 tops and 4 bottoms and can say we love them all! The Gemma twin set (Nederlands patroon) includes a top with short or long sleeves and for the bottom you have the choice of a culottes or a skirt.
We all love the culottes because they look like a skirt, however it is just as practical as a short. You can use both woven and knit fabrics for the culottes. Our eldest is wearing a culotte that I made with knit viscose, so a very nice and flowy fabric. For our middle one I used a woven fabric, 100% viscose rayon. During testing I used 100% cotton fabric, which also works well although the culottes is not as flowy. I do like the more wider look of the cotton fabric.
Our girls love their skirt (although they asked me why there was a piece of fabric between their legs...).

There is also a skirt included in the pattern, so I tried that out for our youngest, in regular knit.
Besides the culottes and the skirt there are two different lengths, mini and knee length. For our eldest two I sewed culottes in mini length. For our youngest I used the knee length.

Then on to the top. Also for the top two options are included, a round hem in the top on the left and a regular hem on the right (and short and long sleeves). The tops are very quick to sew with just a front and back pattern piece and the bands for the neck and sleeves. I like the round hem although in combination with the culottes you do not see much of the culottes. In combination with the culottes I like the regular hem or shirt tucked in the culotte or skirt.
Always after putting a skirt or dress on our girls do a twirl test to see how it twirls. It doesn't matter how high it is, just to see what kind of shape the skirt/dress makes. These culottes pass their twirl test. The Gemma Twin Set release sale will run from July 21 08.00 CET through July 25 05.59 CET. The pattern is on sale for €5,78 - ex taxes no code needed.

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
