Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Every day Singoalla

When looking at the title you might think, ehh what? Right, apparently Singoalla refers to the elastic in this dress/top/jumpsuit. It makes sizing of this garment easy and sewing quick! So have a look at the new released Every day Singoalla from Made by Runi . It is discounted until 9.00 UTC +2. The everyday singoalla includes a top, a dress and a jumpsuit (short or long legs) with raglan sleeves. The sew is so quick, within an hour I finished my dress. The most important element is the elastic. I used the length of our girl as the size and that works perfectly, it is a great summer dress (or top or jumpsuit) and starts at size 50. Great for small babies as well during warm weather.  The pattern is designed for knit, although I can image it would work just as well for woven fabrics. I might give that a try next, again to use all those beautiful woven fabrics I have and these would be perfect for a light summer dress/top/jumpsuit. Fabric:  both come from de Stoffenstraat Patte...

Striped linen pants: Vanessa

Pants are not my favourite garment to sew and especially not for myself. However, when I went through my closet I came to the conclusion I only had jeans and I was looking for something a little more summery (and not shorts). Since I always find it difficult to find well fitting pants, I thought let's give it a go. Sew my own pants, in linen, to make nice summer pants. I used the Vanessa Fluid pants (3676) from Jalie . The Vanessa pants are designed for woven fabrics. The pants have tapered legs, a faux fly, pockets and an elastic waistband (with waistband inset on the front if you want to add some extra colour). I was actually surprised how quickly the pants came together. Even with making sure the lines would line up on both sides of the pants and aligning the pockets with the legs. I did adapt the top part of the pants slightly. That is what always holds me back from sewing my own pants, I always have to do some adaptations. I used size U for the pants, as all my sizes fall in ...

A new and free Solis add-on

Need a reason to sew or even buy the Solis pattern by Sofilantjes *? Now is the perfect time, the Solis kids is on sale until June 23 because there is a new add-on. I love the Solis, and I have made this one and this one for our girl, as well as for myself . The back is just so beautiful. But there is competition, because the new add-on is also stunning. Have a look! This new and free add-on is here for the celebration of 6 years of Sofilantjes. Already six years of Sofilantjes, congratulations to their amazing team! Have a look at all the Sofilantjes patterns I have sewed over the years. They are always a big hit with our girls. I even used this fabric combination before for Orbis skinny pants . Important with this new add on is the length of the bodice of the dress. The bodice needs to end in the waist, measure from shoulder to waist before you start cutting. If the bodice is longer than the waist the back might start gaping and that is not what you want right? So adjust...

Raspberry top!

Tops and vests are actually the most useful things to sew. They make a little bit too summery patterns suitable for colder weather. Our eldest really is a dress/skirt kind of girl, especially maxi dresses. The dresses I have sewed lately are mostly sleeveless or have short sleeves, and the new Raspberry cover-up/top from Sofiona Designs is great to wear over a dress or top. I do not often sew with woven fabrics, but I do have a stash of woven fabrics. With my woven fabrics I never know what pattern to use. The new Raspberry is great for your flowy woven fabrics. The Raspberry is a cover-up/ top that comes in 3 different lengths. I made the shortest length, shirt length, there is also knee length and full length. You can either do short sleeves or sleeveless. Additionally you can add a ruffle to the sleeves and bottom of the top, and do one or two ties. The idea is that you can wear it over a swimsuit as a cover-up, not necessarily a very loose fitted top, but a nic...

Tropical shorts

When I went through the closet of my eldest I saw she was in need for shorts. Which isn't that strange since she prefers to wear dresses and skirts. When I saw that the new Fibre Mood * included a shorts pattern, I thought it would be great to sew new shorts for our eldest. The adam shorts in Fibre Mood 10 is an interesting pattern, because when I saw the pattern pieces I wasn't really sure which pattern piece was supposed to go where. Lengthening was a challenge. Also making sure that my directional print in the pockets would not end upside down (I only had a small piece, a leftover from my neighbour during our sewing weekend last year ) was interesting. The pattern piece did not make sense at a first glance. Luckily everything went as planned and the shorts were quickly sewed together. The adam shorts can be sewed in both stretch or non stretch fabrics. I used stretch jeans because knit shorts usually do not have a long life with our kids.  I have a sewiwgma...

Treasures skirts for our girls

Skirts are the next best thing after dresses and sometimes skirts are even better. Especially our middle daughter loves skirts. During my last sewing weekend I sewed up two skirts for our two eldest girls with the Little Treasures Skirt by Duck Butt Designs . If you like colour blocking Duck Butt Designs is a great designer. All her designs include options to go all the way with amazing combinations of fabric.  I love Duck Butt Designs because of the colour blocking, so that is also what I did with the skirts for our girls. A big colour blocking pocket to put all those treasures in. I indeed have to make sure to clear out those pockets before washing them or I end up with a lot of different objects in my laundry. There are different options included in the pattern. There are two different lengths. I chose the longest length. Additionally, there are three different options for the waistband, a yoga waistband, folding and a waistband with elastic. There are even optional under...

Sofshell SHO! Jacket

Our middle girl was in need of a new coat. I had some fabric left from  this softshell coat  (also for our middle girl, wasn't she small back then?), but not enough for a whole coat. Plus I like colour blocking and combining fabrics, so I ordered some new softshell fabric to make the  Kids Jacket  from  SHO!  The red softshell is actually a very special fabric as clouds will appear on the fabric when it gets wet, how cool is that?! The SHO! Kids Jacket is for non-stretch fabrics. I used the chest size of our daughter and sized up in length, so that hopefully she can wear it another year. I love the asymmetrical front and diagonal zipper. Also the cowl neck is an eyecatcher, although you cannot see it that well as our daughter put it down in the pictures.  The top front of the flap is lined. You can also choose to fully line the whole jacket. I also like the flap behind the zipper. It looks so much better when you have the zipper just halfway up...
