Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Retro bell pants

Our girl loves retro clothing. She has been wearing these pants until I took it away from her closet because they were way too short. So I decided to make another pair. The last time I colour blocked the bell pants (see a video on how to here ). This time I kept it simple and I just sewed the fit pants from Mamma Can Do It * without any colour blocking. The fit pants is a great pattern because it includes many different types of pants. It includes 4 different types of pants: skinny pants, regular pants, wide pants and bell bottom pants. I sewed the bell bottom pants. There are also 4 different lengths includes, so you can sew all different types of pants with this pattern. The fit pants are available in baby sizes, kids, women's and men sizes.  The previous time I used a sweat fabric which wasn't very stretchy. This time I used stretch corduroy, which quite some stretch to it. I had to adapt the pants after I sewed them and tried them on our girl. Because of the stretchy mat...

Striped linen pants: Vanessa

Pants are not my favourite garment to sew and especially not for myself. However, when I went through my closet I came to the conclusion I only had jeans and I was looking for something a little more summery (and not shorts). Since I always find it difficult to find well fitting pants, I thought let's give it a go. Sew my own pants, in linen, to make nice summer pants. I used the Vanessa Fluid pants (3676) from Jalie . The Vanessa pants are designed for woven fabrics. The pants have tapered legs, a faux fly, pockets and an elastic waistband (with waistband inset on the front if you want to add some extra colour). I was actually surprised how quickly the pants came together. Even with making sure the lines would line up on both sides of the pants and aligning the pockets with the legs. I did adapt the top part of the pants slightly. That is what always holds me back from sewing my own pants, I always have to do some adaptations. I used size U for the pants, as all my sizes fall in ...

My first pair of trousers: Gobi Culottes

I cannot believe it, but I sewed my first pair of trousers and I love them! I am so proud of myself! The Gobi Culottes by Itch to Stitch * are designed for twill, non stretch, woven fabrics. I used a twill fabric with a very soft inside that I bought at Textielstad. They are so comfortable! I have never sewed pants because they look complicated and they take a long time. I did underestimate the time it would take to sew these pants. Just tracing the pattern pieces already took me a couple of hours (there are many different pattern pieces). Then sewing the pants took me longer than expected, but the result is so satisfying. I might sew pants more often. It is great to have well fitting pants. Every time I sew an Itch to Stitch pattern I am always impressed with how easily the pattern is sewed up because the instruction breaks up the construction in many small steps.  I love the result, love the details and also love that they are finished. I lengthened the ...

Railway Joggers by Sofiona Designs

Sometimes, I am so sad that our eldest doesn't want to wear pants. This makes that I do not sew many pants for her. She is the only one in our household who fits in clothing that starts at 2Y. Our middle daughter, although she is 3, still falls in the 12-18M size range with her chest and hips. Of course she is also a big fan of dresses, however, she can be persuaded to wear pants. Nevertheless, when I saw a tester call for these joggers, I just had to apply! The Railway Joggers by Sofiona Designs are unisex pants that can be made with different options. I of course made the pants with the most colour blocking, but you can also make the pants with one front panel (without the pleats) or just in one fabric. I love the pleats, the pleats are why they are called railway joggers. They look like railway tracks. Sofiona Designs is a new Canadian pattern designer duo that is releasing four new patterns at once. The Railway Joggers are one of them. I sewed another one of the patt...

How to Colour Block Bell Bottom shaped (Fit) Pants?

Do you also find pants in just one colour too boring for your kids? I do! I am always looking for a way to spice up pants (if I sew pants or leggings) and add a colour block. Then w e were asked to make a video tutorial for a video party. Bella Sunshine: Back to School Blog Tour

Blog tours are a great way to push me to start sewing. For the  back to school blog tour by Bella Sunshine Designs * I used three different patterns to start my fall sewing. Although it is still searing hot here I sewed an outfit that she can wear once she goes back to school and most likely the weather will be back to its usual self (which means rain). I used two free patterns, the Eden Leggings  and the Reagan Raglan t-shirt   (free with the code in the  BSD Facebook group ),  and combined these with the Apple Cardigan by Bella Sunshine Designs . This is a first time for me to create one whole outfit that fits together and it took me a while to find the right combination of fabrics that fit together. I am really happy with the result, but I can imagine that some might find it quite bold (I guess most of my outfits are quite bold to others). Although I think this outfit is one of my least bold combinations.  The Apple Cardigan is a great cardigan...

Sofilantjes quartet: Cicero, Foliis, Domi and Regina

I love patterns by Sofilantjes and so does our girl. Mostly because the dresses by Sofilantjes twirl. The last couple of months I have sewn several Sofilantjes patterns so I decided to combine four Sofilantjes * patterns in one post: here are my Cicero jacket , Foliis Jacket , Domi sweat pants and Regina dress ! Get ready for a photo overload! Four patterns in one post means lots of photos! Sometimes I have these projects that I fall in love with right away. I start the project and then other things happen and these projects stay on the UFO (unfinished objects) pile. The Cicero jacket was like this. I started cutting the cicero on the last day of our sewing weekend in the beginning of last year (which is more than one year ago!). Then I started other projects as our girl requested dresses. During the summer I started sewing the Cicero together but I did not have the right color zipper. So again the project stagnated and it took me again some time before it was finished. Finall...
