Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Bahari swimsuit release

I always find it hard to find great swimsuits for our girls. Either the fit is not so good or the design is not what we both like. I have sewed several swimsuits mostly for our eldest and I always love the result. Now our middle daughter wanted a bikini as well so I sewed up the Bahari swimsuit from Bella Sunshine Designs * for her, which is released today. It is a great pattern for when you haven't sewn many swimsuits before and you can add a flounce or skirt if you like. Since I made a skirted bottom last year for our middle one I sewed one without a skirt. I did add a flounce, which everybody here at home thought would end up as a skirt. Blending for different width and lengths for the sizes might be tricky, but Bella Sunshine Designs has a very clear video explaining how to blend for the Bahari. Be sure to check that out. Making photos of a swimsuit without a swim pool or nice water close-by was a new challenge. I tried to create a watery feel wit...

Bella Sunshine: Back to School Blog Tour

Blog tours are a great way to push me to start sewing. For the  back to school blog tour by Bella Sunshine Designs * I used three different patterns to start my fall sewing. Although it is still searing hot here I sewed an outfit that she can wear once she goes back to school and most likely the weather will be back to its usual self (which means rain). I used two free patterns, the Eden Leggings  and the Reagan Raglan t-shirt   (free with the code in the  BSD Facebook group ),  and combined these with the Apple Cardigan by Bella Sunshine Designs . This is a first time for me to create one whole outfit that fits together and it took me a while to find the right combination of fabrics that fit together. I am really happy with the result, but I can imagine that some might find it quite bold (I guess most of my outfits are quite bold to others). Although I think this outfit is one of my least bold combinations.  The Apple Cardigan is a great cardigan...

A colourful Amelia dress by BSD

You might actually think that we only have one girl in our household, but we have another one jumping around. And she is starting to look more and more like her older sister when it comes to clothing. She is already picking out her own clothing and has a clear preference for dresses. It all started with the new dress for her: the  Amelia dress *  by  Bella Sunshine Designs . Since our youngest is a petite little girl she usually doesn't fit in the patterns that start at 1 year or 2 years, which means that most of the time I sew for our eldest girl. This time it was time for a dress for our youngest girl. That is the great advantage of BSD patterns, they start at 6M and our girl actually fits the sizing chart! Once our girl saw the dress she fell in love with it and of course, as our eldest daughter would do, starts twirling the dress and showing it to everybody else. She must feel that is the way to go with dresses, show to others how pretty it is by twirling a...

Emmaline maxi dress by Bella Sunshine Designs

Dresses by Bella Sunshine Designs * are always a hit with our girls. I have sewed the Sahara Dress for our eldest girl and soon I will show you another BSD dress for our youngest girl. Today I am showing you the Emmaline maxi, dress and top by BSD. Every single day our eldest asks whether she can wear a long dress today. When she goes to school usually the answer is not to school. When she is done with school she asks again if she can put on a long dress (she has 4 long dresses at the moment), the answer usually is yes. So basically our girl wears long dresses as much as possible. You can imagine that this dress is a huge hit with her. Especially since the previous long dresses I sewed her are not until the ground anymore. The Emmaline maxi, dress and top has several options. You can sew it sleeveless, with short sleeves or with long sleeves. The other options are a top option, a dress option and a maxi dress option. It comes in sizes 6M - 12 for girls and 0 - 30 for ladies ...

Sahara Dress Test

I was over the moon when I was selected to test the Sahara Top and Dress * by Bella Sunshine Designs . And so was our daughter when she put the dress on! That twirl factor! The disadvantage is that I am afraid that I cannot get away anymore with dresses that do not have such a twirl factor. The Sahara Top and Dress is a pattern for knit fabric. I made the dress with long sleeves. Other options in the pattern are, sleeveless, short sleeves or as a top. You have to use fabric with at least 50% stretch otherwise it might be too tight as the sahara top and dress are very fitted. Our daughter was in between sizes, initially I sewed the smaller size, but in the end it turned out that is is better to choose the bigger size if your model is between sizes. It is a nice, sweet and girly dress with a beautiful back, that makes it even more girly.  I think the dress is a musthave for your girl's wardrobe, it looks beautiful and because of the knit fabric is so comfortable.  As...
