Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Junior Miss Dandelion - a pink dress for me!

Testing for myself is something I really like because my wardrobe grows with handmade items, which always fit much better than store bought clothing, and I often get challenged during testing. Sometimes with new techniques, sometimes with clothing that are outside of my comfort zone, but turn out awesome in the end, sometimes also with fabric choices. I also like that I learn about my own body measurements and the changes that I have to do for each pattern. This makes it easier for future patterns that I am going to make. Meet the new pink (!) Miss Dandelion dress  by  Sofiona Designs . I never thought that I would wear a pink (well maybe dark fuchsia) dress, let alone sew one for myself. But this stripe fabric (it has very small stripes, which are difficult to see in the pictures) is a colour I just fell for when I saw it at Nooteboom Textiles. This dress, and the colour, where definitely out of my comfort zone. I loved the Dandelion peplum tops that I sewed for our gir...

Nivalis Nursing Hack Tutorial

I love to sew clothing that are nursing friendly now that our baby girl is born. Or even hack patterns so that they become nursing friendly. Today I am showing you how to hack the Nivalis dress for Women by Sofilantjes * to make it nursing friendly. I also wrote the tutorial in Dutch so see below for the Dutch description. In addition to the nursing hack I also hemmed the sleeves differently. I liked the inside of the fabric and therefore just put the wrong sides of the fabric together and sewed it together with a very small zig zag stitch. In order to make it nursing friendly I added an invisible zipper to the colour block. I added a second invisible zipper head so that you can open the zipper from two sides. When the zipper is closed both zipper heads will be together either on the left or the right side. So now on to the nursing hack. Hope you like it, if anything is unclear let me know! Maternity sewing: Laney top and dress

This is my last maternity sewing post as I am not pregnant anymore. Our little girl is born and we are all happy she is here.  The Laney dress was my last maternity sewing project. I had two weddings that I needed a dress for and I found the Laney dress by Wyld Chic Boutique to be the perfect pattern for that. The Laney top and dress is a very versatile pattern. You can sew the top and dress in a maternity version or with a regular belly. There is also a nursing option included as well. So you can also sew a regular nursing version for after your pregnancy.  Isn't that just perfect? I first sewed the Laney top to see how the sizing would b e.  I was 26 weeks pregnant during these photos of the Laney Maternity Top. The pattern is pretty sh ort in its description and there was no seam allowance indicated. I sewed the Laney top during a sewing day with her so I wanted to start right away and therefore assumed it had a seam allowance of 1 cm. After sewing...

Maternity sewing: review of the Givre Maternity top and dress

Versatile patterns are the best, don't you think? Especially with maternity patterns, which you can only use a limited amount of time. The Givre maternity dress/t-shirt  by Deer and Doe , is such a pattern. You can make a top or dress with it, sleeveless or 3/4 sleeves and there is the color block option you can add or not. So you can make four different types of clothing with this one pattern. Additionally, there are two belly sizes, for 3-6 months and for 6-9 months pregnant. If you like the pattern but are not pregnant, they also have a regular version of the Givre dress/t-shirt . I sewed up a t-shirt and a dress from this pattern. First up is the dress. I mixed and matched a bit between the different options. The color block option is part of the t-shirt. I love color blocking so I transferred it to the dress. In this photo I am 23 weeks pregnant. I sewed up the 6-9 months pregnant size so I would have room to grow in it. Adaptations I made to the pattern : I added about...
