Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Tropical shorts

When I went through the closet of my eldest I saw she was in need for shorts. Which isn't that strange since she prefers to wear dresses and skirts. When I saw that the new Fibre Mood * included a shorts pattern, I thought it would be great to sew new shorts for our eldest. The adam shorts in Fibre Mood 10 is an interesting pattern, because when I saw the pattern pieces I wasn't really sure which pattern piece was supposed to go where. Lengthening was a challenge. Also making sure that my directional print in the pockets would not end upside down (I only had a small piece, a leftover from my neighbour during our sewing weekend last year ) was interesting. The pattern piece did not make sense at a first glance. Luckily everything went as planned and the shorts were quickly sewed together. The adam shorts can be sewed in both stretch or non stretch fabrics. I used stretch jeans because knit shorts usually do not have a long life with our kids.  I have a sewiwgma...

Fibre Mood Frida Jacket: my perspective

There is a new  Fibre Mood * magazine in town. I sewed the  Frida Jacket , a jacket perfect for thicker types of fabric. The jacket is already one of my favourites at the moment, especially with the nice and warm fabric, it feels so cozy. I love the collar of the jacket and the welt pocket. I love welt pockets, the only hurdle is sewing them. I must admit the instructions in this Fibre Mood were not my cup of tea. Some instructions are a better fit with me than others. Luckily, there is always youtube and after watching some movies welt pockets are actually not that difficult. I am happy with the result in the end. If you are thinking about making the Frida Jacket there are a couple of things you should keep in mind when sewing the Frida. First of all, a couple of others already mentioned it before I started, the Frida is a short model. I am 162 (5'3) and I did not change anything to the length, however if you are a bit taller, I would definitely leng...

Celia dress from Fibre Mood

There are always "first times". This is a first time for me using a pattern from Fibre Mood *. Fibre Mood is a new Belgian sewing magazine that you can find in the bookstores, but you can also buy the patterns online. I had the opportunity to choose one pattern to sew up for the Linkparty #7 by Fribre Mood. I chose the Celia dress . I love asymmetrical dresses, so when I saw the Celia I knew I just had to sew it (and I was lucky enough to be able to sew the Celia). The dress is perfect for sweat or thicker fabrics because it has a loose fit. First, I sewed the size that would fit our middle daughter but I did not like the fit on her. So I decided to take in the sleeves and upper part of the dress with around 1,5 cm on each side. I like the fit so much better on her. The length is also still something she has to grow into, so she can wear the dress hopefully this season as well as next winter. Sometimes I know which combination of fabrics I am going to use. Often late...
