Celia dress from Fibre Mood

There are always "first time"'s. This is a first time for me using a pattern from Fibre Mood. Fibre Mood is a new Belgian sewing magazine that you can find in the bookstores, but you can also buy the patterns online. I had the opportunity to choose one pattern to sew up for the Linkparty #7 by Fribre Mood. I chose the Celia dress.
I love asymmetrical dresses, so when I saw the Celia I knew I just had to sew it (and I was lucky enough to be able to sew the Celia). The dress is perfect for sweat or thicker fabrics because it has a loose fit. First, I sewed the size that would fit our middle daughter but I did not like the fit on her. So I decided to take in the sleeves and upper part of the dress with around 1,5 cm on each side. I like the fit so much better on her. The length is also still something she has to grow into, so she can wear the dress hopefully this season as well as next winter.
Sometimes I know which combination of fabrics I am going to use. Often lately I just cannot choose what makes the best fabric combination and then I ask my husband. Although he doesn't always like to get involved, he does get upset when I do not consult him (men, ugh!). He even gets more upset when I do ask him and still choose a different combination (haha). So for this dress he chose between a couple of my options and I loved the combination he chose. So much that when I figured out that I could not get all of the pattern pieces out of the leftover piece of fabric I just wanted to make it work. So I decided to get a bit creative and colour block the dress. Since the dress is a pretty loose fit I used the fabric for some small pieces across the grain. It also gives a nice effect because of the stripes in the fabric.
Fabric: the blue sweater knit comes from Caresstoffen. The yellow french terry is "Let's circle around" by Chat Chocolat that I bought at Stoffenfeest
