Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Cattail (maxi) dress

I love geometric lines in sewing patterns and I also love them because you can easily use these lines for colour blocking. The new released Cattail Tank/Dress from Sofiona Designs totally fits this description. I love the diagonal line on the back of the dress, but also the stripe on the front of the dress. This pattern is going to be a staple in our girls’ wardrobe. Now I am only waiting for the women’s version. The Cattail is a very versatile pattern as it includes a tank, a knee length dress and a maxi dress and it doesn’t need too much fabric. Especially for a maxi dress this is a plus, especially with all the colour blocking you just need long stripes of fabric. For the maxi dress I used 115 cm (size 6 length). Besides the different garments you can make a racerback or an angled back (with a cute hole in the neck). I sewed two dresses during testing, a maxi dress with an angled back and a knee length dress also with an angled back. I just love the line in the ...

Emmaline maxi dress by Bella Sunshine Designs

Dresses by Bella Sunshine Designs * are always a hit with our girls. I have sewed the Sahara Dress for our eldest girl and soon I will show you another BSD dress for our youngest girl. Today I am showing you the Emmaline maxi, dress and top by BSD. Every single day our eldest asks whether she can wear a long dress today. When she goes to school usually the answer is not to school. When she is done with school she asks again if she can put on a long dress (she has 4 long dresses at the moment), the answer usually is yes. So basically our girl wears long dresses as much as possible. You can imagine that this dress is a huge hit with her. Especially since the previous long dresses I sewed her are not until the ground anymore. The Emmaline maxi, dress and top has several options. You can sew it sleeveless, with short sleeves or with long sleeves. The other options are a top option, a dress option and a maxi dress option. It comes in sizes 6M - 12 for girls and 0 - 30 for ladies ...

A new favourite (uptown/downtown) dress for our girl!

During the summer our girl had one favourite dress which she wore non-stop. During our holiday in Indonesia, she basically almost only wore this maxi dress. The only moment she did not wear it was when it was in the laundry. With the colder weather arriving, it was time for a new dress with a less summer feel.  During our sewing weekend I sewed a new long dress for our girl. I looked for a maxi dress with long sleeves and the Uptown/Downtown Dress form Stay + Stitch was the perfect option. The love the lines of the pattern and the fit. I made size 2T for our 4 year old and it fits perfectly. I made the most simple version, no cowl, just simpel hemming and I was done. The only thing I would change for the next dress is make the sleeves a bit wider. The fit is snug at the moment, not that our girl minds, but a bit wider sleeves would be better I feel. This was my quickest project during our sewing weekend. I traced the pattern, cut the fabric and sewed the dress within an...

Firecracker (maxi) Dress

There is a new pattern in town, perfect for summer! The Firecracker Dress * by Annelaine Patterns . I made two versions during testing, one with dress length and one with maxi length. Our daughter loves the maxi dress, she feels so grown up in it. Even though I don’t own a maxi dress… The Firecracker Cress by Annelaine Patterns (9M-14) is a dress pattern that is released for the 4th of July celebrations. Here in the Netherlands it is just a regular day. The dress is an easy sew up with a lovely back detail. The best part is that our daughter can dress herself in it. Because of the crossed straps, she can step into and out of the dress herself. She cannot put things over her own head yet. But this dress she can put on herself. Yeay for girls who want to do everything themselves! The first dress I am showing is the final version of the pattern. I bought the fabric in Italy and when I showed it to our eldest, she didn’t like it at all. It think because of the black color. Becaus...
