Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Jacket nr 3 for me

I love sewing jackets. It is a bit of a more complicated sew and therefore always give a satisfing feel after finishing it. I have already sewed 2 jackets last year and here is the next one: the Charlie jacket from Jalie . My first jacket was the Frida Jacket from  Fibre Mood , the second is the Billie jacket (woven fabric) from Petite Stitchery This jacket took a while to get finished. I started cutting the fabric almost a year ago. But then we moved and the fabric and pattern pieces scattered through my new sewing room. Then when I started again I had lost one of the pattern pieces (I did not cut all pattern pieces apparently) and needed to trace one pattern piece again. Then I got motivated to finish the project and I did. It is going to be great for fall when it will start to get colder, great for layering! The fabric was hard to photograph, as from a distance you cannot tell it has stripes and the colours blend. The fabric comes from Zonen09 and are petrol and ochre co...

Striped linen pants: Vanessa

Pants are not my favourite garment to sew and especially not for myself. However, when I went through my closet I came to the conclusion I only had jeans and I was looking for something a little more summery (and not shorts). Since I always find it difficult to find well fitting pants, I thought let's give it a go. Sew my own pants, in linen, to make nice summer pants. I used the Vanessa Fluid pants (3676) from Jalie . The Vanessa pants are designed for woven fabrics. The pants have tapered legs, a faux fly, pockets and an elastic waistband (with waistband inset on the front if you want to add some extra colour). I was actually surprised how quickly the pants came together. Even with making sure the lines would line up on both sides of the pants and aligning the pockets with the legs. I did adapt the top part of the pants slightly. That is what always holds me back from sewing my own pants, I always have to do some adaptations. I used size U for the pants, as all my sizes fall in ...

Jalie's newest collection: Reversible Elle

Jalie released a new collection and I again got the opportunity to sew something from their new collection. I chose the reversible top: Elle . Elle is a loose fitting dolman top with a knot you can wear in the front of the back. I loved the design of the knot when I saw the first drawings. However, when I sewed it up I wasn't sure about it. It is a rather loose fit, which is not something I often wear. The recommended fabric for the top should have a minimum of 10% stretch. My fabric has more stretch so that makes it a bit more flowy.  After putting it on several times I am growing to like it. Probably with the knot in the back, or maybe with the knot in the front, what do you think? The top has two different sleeve lengths. I chose the extended sleeveless option. There is also a 3/4 sleeve option. If you look a loose fitting blouse I would choose the sizing that fits you, if you prefer a more fitted garment I would recommend sizing down. Of course the top comes in girls...

Galaxie 3: travel bags

Jalie has just released Galaxie 3: travel accessoires . This is a package that includes 3 different bags that are perfect for your travels. These include: Jet (a travel pouch/passport holder), Eclips (a purse organizer) and Supernova (a packable tote bag). I sewed the small purse organizer, which I am showing you today.  I think the Galaxie 3 is a great bundle of patterns, very useful for travelling and great as a gift .  The best part is that you do not need any interfacing, so it is just non stretch fabric that you need. There are 3 patterns includes, of which two you can make in a small and large size. I made the small Eclipse, so the small purse organizer. Something I wanted to sew for a long time, but never found the time to do so. A deadline is always the best way for me to actually finish a project quickly. The pattern has 8 outer pockets, one zipper pouch and four compartments. So enough room to store my wallet, keys, tissues and all the other stuff that is n...

Meet Jalie's Charlotte and Michelle

I did not only sew the Nikita from the 12 (!) new patterns that were released by Jalie Patterns , I also sewed the Michelle tanks and dress (3911)  and Charlotte Cardigans (3900) .  A summer dress and cardigan, perfect for summer. On our way to our sewing weekend in the beginning of this year we made a stop at the Stoffenstraat and I saw the fabric with the elves, or dancers, on it. I knew our eldest would love it! So I bought it and then I had to find a pattern that would fit the fabric. When I saw the Michelle I thought it would be a perfect fit.  After sewing the dress and our daughter put it on, I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting a bit more of a fitted model. Or maybe because I sized up one size in length it came out a bit too big in my opinion. Well she can still wear it next year and she loves it because it is a loooong dress. I do like the model for myself and would size down if I would sew another one for our daughter. I do love the v-shaped neck...

Meet Jalie's Nikita

New patterns from Jalie , 12 new patterns! One of my favourites of the 12 patterns is the Nikita workout tank and swing dress (3902) . I think it was one of the first patterns that had enough people signing up for this blog tour. It is just an amazing design! The Nikita has two options, a top and a dress. The top has a straight front side, diagonal side seams and a cutout in the back. The dress has a straight seam, so without the unique triangle cutout in the seam of the top. Of course it still has the diagonal side seams just like the top. You can choose to omit the cutout and have a closed back. The top part of the top is lined, while the rest of the top is just a single layer. The top is a loose fitting, flowy top and of course comes in a wide size range: 2 - 2XL (92 (kids) - 56 (women) European sizes). It works great as a workout top but also as an unique top on jeans (or a skirt). I combined the Nikita with the Skating/ dance skirts (3025) from ...

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...
