Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Striped linen pants: Vanessa

Pants are not my favourite garment to sew and especially not for myself. However, when I went through my closet I came to the conclusion I only had jeans and I was looking for something a little more summery (and not shorts). Since I always find it difficult to find well fitting pants, I thought let's give it a go. Sew my own pants, in linen, to make nice summer pants. I used the Vanessa Fluid pants (3676) from Jalie.

The Vanessa pants are designed for woven fabrics. The pants have tapered legs, a faux fly, pockets and an elastic waistband (with waistband inset on the front if you want to add some extra colour). I was actually surprised how quickly the pants came together. Even with making sure the lines would line up on both sides of the pants and aligning the pockets with the legs. I did adapt the top part of the pants slightly. That is what always holds me back from sewing my own pants, I always have to do some adaptations.
I used size U for the pants, as all my sizes fall in that size.
The first adaptation was making the legs a bit wider from the knee down. The pants were too tight for my liking. I added 0.5 cm on each side of the leg. I also felt I had some excess fabric on the front, so I took in the crotch seam. There was also some extra fabric at the waist so I put two extra darts in the front and they now fit like a dream. Lastly I left out the inset on the waistband and created a one piece waistband instead of a two piece waistband. With my 1.62 cm (5"4) I did not shorten the legs. I just hemmed the buttons. The other option in the pattern is adding elastic cuffs at the legs.
Fabric: I bought the striped linen at Driessenstoffen.
Sizing: girls 2 - 13 (92 - 155), women 4 - 44 (34 - 52)
Options: Hemmed at ankle length or elasticized cuffed hem
Sewing time: 3 hours

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
