Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Colour block hoodie with a twist

With the colder weather I have started sewing sweaters, for our girls and for myself. My husband isn't really into hoodies, but after seeing mine, he was doubting, whether maybe he also wanted one for himself. Let me first show you my sweater. I used the Raglan hoodie with a twist from Made by Runi , which is pattern of the week this week so available with a discount. I used the fitted one for women, there is also a straight cut for men and a children's version . So you can sew one for the whole family . The Raglan hoodie with a twist has the same colour blocking as  the hourglass dress  that I made recently. I love this colour blocking it looks great! There is also a one piece bodice piece if you don't like the colour blocking. Additionally, there is the option of colour blocked shoulder pieces. The pattern includes a hood and a cowl. Nevertheless, I used the free add-on of  the cross-over cowl and hood . I used the asymmetrical positioning of the eyelets. You can choo...

Jacket nr 3 for me

I love sewing jackets. It is a bit of a more complicated sew and therefore always give a satisfing feel after finishing it. I have already sewed 2 jackets last year and here is the next one: the Charlie jacket from Jalie . My first jacket was the Frida Jacket from  Fibre Mood , the second is the Billie jacket (woven fabric) from Petite Stitchery This jacket took a while to get finished. I started cutting the fabric almost a year ago. But then we moved and the fabric and pattern pieces scattered through my new sewing room. Then when I started again I had lost one of the pattern pieces (I did not cut all pattern pieces apparently) and needed to trace one pattern piece again. Then I got motivated to finish the project and I did. It is going to be great for fall when it will start to get colder, great for layering! The fabric was hard to photograph, as from a distance you cannot tell it has stripes and the colours blend. The fabric comes from Zonen09 and are petrol and ochre co...

Junior Miss Dandelion - a pink dress for me!

Testing for myself is something I really like because my wardrobe grows with handmade items, which always fit much better than store bought clothing, and I often get challenged during testing. Sometimes with new techniques, sometimes with clothing that are outside of my comfort zone, but turn out awesome in the end, sometimes also with fabric choices. I also like that I learn about my own body measurements and the changes that I have to do for each pattern. This makes it easier for future patterns that I am going to make. Meet the new pink (!) Miss Dandelion dress  by  Sofiona Designs . I never thought that I would wear a pink (well maybe dark fuchsia) dress, let alone sew one for myself. But this stripe fabric (it has very small stripes, which are difficult to see in the pictures) is a colour I just fell for when I saw it at Nooteboom Textiles. This dress, and the colour, where definitely out of my comfort zone. I loved the Dandelion peplum tops that I sewed for our gir...

A twisted outfit: Romy twist tee and skirt

Twisted and asymmetrical clothing are my weak spot, so I fell in love the moment I saw this outfit, the Adult Romy Twist Tee and Skirt from Petite Stitchery*. They look complicated and sophisticated, but they are actually very quick sews. The twist top has three different lengths, I made the regular top length, also the modest top length and mini top length are included in the pattern. I don't really see myself wearing anything shorter than the regular top length, but I must admit, everybody in the tester group looked great in the shorter top lengths. Besides the crew neck option, also a v-neck option is included and 4 different sleeve length. So you can make many different options with the twist tee. That skirt! Wow, it is just two pattern pieces, one for the skirt and one for the waistband, you need to fold and flip and there you are, you have your new twist skirt. Well not exactly, that is in theory how it works but it was a bit puzzling at first what should go where. I length...

Hourglass dress

Looking for a flattering knit dress? The Hourglass dress from Made by Runi is just that. The hourglass shape in the dress accentuates your curves and gives the look of a slim waist. The hourglass dress is quite a quick sew I would say. Although it took me almost 4 hours because I wanted to make sure that it would not end up too tight around my hips. I added a bit more seam allowance (seam allowance isn't included in the patterns from Made by Runi anyways) to the dress pattern pieces, but it took me a couple of hours and many fittings to get it to the way I wanted. I don't like making a muslin and added too much seam allowance. It was totally my fault and not the pattern. Now I am really happy with the fit. It fits perfectly and still fits loose enough around my hips, the way I like it. Lesson learned! Purple isn't a colour I often wear, although I did make a purple top before. I started out with the flower fabric in the middle. For the hourglass to come out and accentuat...

Legends top 2.0 for myself

The Legends top by Stay + Stitch (previously known as Sew Straight and Gather), known for its beautiful neckline, has been updated with a new option of an A line bodice. I sewed the  legends top for our girl three years ago. It has been on my sewing list to sew one for myself. So now I got the chance to sew two Legends 2.0 with the new option for myself (if you already own the legends pattern the new update (Legends 2.0) will be in your account). The pattern is updated and now includes option A, the original fit, with a more fitted bodice and option B, an A line bodice. I sewed two tops during testing with option B.  Also the construction of the neckline has changed. Previously the front was fully lined, now a facing pattern piece is used for the neckline. I love this, as I found the double layer a bit too warm for summer weather.  First I sewed the red one, so I could match that with the pants I sewed recently. As this was sewed with a previous version of the pattern,...

Striped linen pants: Vanessa

Pants are not my favourite garment to sew and especially not for myself. However, when I went through my closet I came to the conclusion I only had jeans and I was looking for something a little more summery (and not shorts). Since I always find it difficult to find well fitting pants, I thought let's give it a go. Sew my own pants, in linen, to make nice summer pants. I used the Vanessa Fluid pants (3676) from Jalie . The Vanessa pants are designed for woven fabrics. The pants have tapered legs, a faux fly, pockets and an elastic waistband (with waistband inset on the front if you want to add some extra colour). I was actually surprised how quickly the pants came together. Even with making sure the lines would line up on both sides of the pants and aligning the pockets with the legs. I did adapt the top part of the pants slightly. That is what always holds me back from sewing my own pants, I always have to do some adaptations. I used size U for the pants, as all my sizes fall in ...
