Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Cropped woven jacket

Remember this hoodie , with those fun colour blocking lines? There is a new sister in town, it is the Rose Hip Jacket from Sofiona Designs , a cropped jacked for woven fabrics. It has the same colour blocking options as the Clover hoodie as well as the zippered sleeve pocket. Additionally, it has optional welt pockets and double cuffs. The Rose hip is definitely a more extensive pattern, as in it takes more time to sew it up. I included all the optional extras as the zippered sleeve pocket and the welt pockets (I even took the time to make sure the fabric continued in the welt pockets). It took me all week from start to finish, but I am so proud of it. I am jealous of the jacket and I am patiently waiting to see when the Miss pattern will come. The jacket is designed for woven fabrics. And I do like to work with woven fabrics when putting in zippers. The fabric doesn't move as easily as knit does. For the sleeves I used a velvet fabric with very little stretch. For the inside of ...

Jacket nr 3 for me

I love sewing jackets. It is a bit of a more complicated sew and therefore always give a satisfing feel after finishing it. I have already sewed 2 jackets last year and here is the next one: the Charlie jacket from Jalie . My first jacket was the Frida Jacket from  Fibre Mood , the second is the Billie jacket (woven fabric) from Petite Stitchery This jacket took a while to get finished. I started cutting the fabric almost a year ago. But then we moved and the fabric and pattern pieces scattered through my new sewing room. Then when I started again I had lost one of the pattern pieces (I did not cut all pattern pieces apparently) and needed to trace one pattern piece again. Then I got motivated to finish the project and I did. It is going to be great for fall when it will start to get colder, great for layering! The fabric was hard to photograph, as from a distance you cannot tell it has stripes and the colours blend. The fabric comes from Zonen09 and are petrol and ochre co...

Sofshell SHO! Jacket

Our middle girl was in need of a new coat. I had some fabric left from  this softshell coat  (also for our middle girl, wasn't she small back then?), but not enough for a whole coat. Plus I like colour blocking and combining fabrics, so I ordered some new softshell fabric to make the  Kids Jacket  from  SHO!  The red softshell is actually a very special fabric as clouds will appear on the fabric when it gets wet, how cool is that?! The SHO! Kids Jacket is for non-stretch fabrics. I used the chest size of our daughter and sized up in length, so that hopefully she can wear it another year. I love the asymmetrical front and diagonal zipper. Also the cowl neck is an eyecatcher, although you cannot see it that well as our daughter put it down in the pictures.  The top front of the flap is lined. You can also choose to fully line the whole jacket. I also like the flap behind the zipper. It looks so much better when you have the zipper just halfway up...

Another jacket: the Billie

What is another jacket in your closet? You cannot have enough of those can you? The Billie is the second jacket that I sewed for myself and I love wearing jackets, so these are just perfect for me. The Billie from Petite Stitchery * is a great pattern as you can both use woven fabrics and knit fabrics. I have a big stash of knit fabrics and I do my best to decrease this stash, which is working well so far (no new fabrics during the first two months this year (I just bought a couple new ones yesterday...)). My woven fabric stash is not that big (meaning, not that big as my stretch fabric stash), but I also do not sew often with woven fabrics. So when I get the chance I try to use some of my beautiful woven fabrics. My previous jacket was made of stretch sweat so I used a woven fabric instead this time. The Billie comes in three lengths, crop length, waist length and hip length. I like my jackets to be long so that no cold air can come in through the back. Therefore I decided to...

Fibre Mood Frida Jacket: my perspective

There is a new  Fibre Mood * magazine in town. I sewed the  Frida Jacket , a jacket perfect for thicker types of fabric. The jacket is already one of my favourites at the moment, especially with the nice and warm fabric, it feels so cozy. I love the collar of the jacket and the welt pocket. I love welt pockets, the only hurdle is sewing them. I must admit the instructions in this Fibre Mood were not my cup of tea. Some instructions are a better fit with me than others. Luckily, there is always youtube and after watching some movies welt pockets are actually not that difficult. I am happy with the result in the end. If you are thinking about making the Frida Jacket there are a couple of things you should keep in mind when sewing the Frida. First of all, a couple of others already mentioned it before I started, the Frida is a short model. I am 162 (5'3) and I did not change anything to the length, however if you are a bit taller, I would definitely leng...

Arja softshell coat and extra baby wearing add on

I made my first coat and it is a softshell coat! Already quite some time ago I saw the Arja Jacket at makerist and I put it on my sewing list. Only just a couple of months ago I finally bought it with the Muksu add on , which is an add on so that a baby in a baby carrier is also covered by the coat. What I like so much about the Arja Coat are the different options it has. The Arja originally is a vest pattern, but there are also instructions if you want to make it in softshell (for free). So that is what I did and these tips are great. I made a softshell coat with a collar (there is also the option of a hood) and zippers in the pockets (you can also opt for a pocket without a zipper and with or without paspel). I of course love the fact that you  can easily make a colour blocked coat with the different pattern pieces. By playing with different fabrics you can give it a different feel. There are also two different lengths in the pattern, I chose the long version, but you ca...

Sofilantjes quartet: Cicero, Foliis, Domi and Regina

I love patterns by Sofilantjes and so does our girl. Mostly because the dresses by Sofilantjes twirl. The last couple of months I have sewn several Sofilantjes patterns so I decided to combine four Sofilantjes * patterns in one post: here are my Cicero jacket , Foliis Jacket , Domi sweat pants and Regina dress ! Get ready for a photo overload! Four patterns in one post means lots of photos! Sometimes I have these projects that I fall in love with right away. I start the project and then other things happen and these projects stay on the UFO (unfinished objects) pile. The Cicero jacket was like this. I started cutting the cicero on the last day of our sewing weekend in the beginning of last year (which is more than one year ago!). Then I started other projects as our girl requested dresses. During the summer I started sewing the Cicero together but I did not have the right color zipper. So again the project stagnated and it took me again some time before it was finished. Finall...
