Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Another jacket: the Billie

What is another jacket in your closet? You cannot have enough of those can you? The Billie is the second jacket that I sewed for myself and I love wearing jackets, so these are just perfect for me. The Billie from Petite Stitchery* is a great pattern as you can both use woven fabrics and knit fabrics. I have a big stash of knit fabrics and I do my best to decrease this stash, which is working well so far (no new fabrics during the first two months this year (I just bought a couple new ones yesterday...)). My woven fabric stash is not that big (meaning, not that big as my stretch fabric stash), but I also do not sew often with woven fabrics. So when I get the chance I try to use some of my beautiful woven fabrics. My previous jacket was made of stretch sweat so I used a woven fabric instead this time.
The Billie comes in three lengths, crop length, waist length and hip length. I like my jackets to be long so that no cold air can come in through the back. Therefore I decided to sew the hip length jacket. I did shorten the jacket as I am only 162 cm (5’3) and the pattern is designed for 165 cm-175 cm (5’5-5’9) so I shortened it with 7,5 cm (3 inch). There is also a tall option included for people of 5'10 - 6'2 tall (178 cm to 188 cm). It is a unisex jacket so both men and women can wear it, how great is that?! You can make one for the whole family (it comes in baby and kids sizes as well).
Additionally, you can use snaps or a zipper. In the first test version I used a zipper, so for the second, final version, I wanted to use snaps, but I forgot to add the extra width for the snaps. So the version I am showing you also has a zipper.
The jacket is lined and you can put inseam pockets if you want to, like I did. Since the jacket is fully lined you can easily make it reversible if you use snaps or a zipper that can be used on both sides.
Fabric: Woven Jacquard that I bought at de Stoffenstraat
Sizing: XS - 4X (also available for kids and babies)
Options: 2 different fits (regular and tall), 3 different lengths (crop, waist or hip length), 2 different sleeves (regular or balloon), zippered or snap front closure,

Sewing time: 2,5 hours

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
