Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Galaxie 3: travel bags

Jalie has just released Galaxie 3: travel accessoires . This is a package that includes 3 different bags that are perfect for your travels. These include: Jet (a travel pouch/passport holder), Eclips (a purse organizer) and Supernova (a packable tote bag). I sewed the small purse organizer, which I am showing you today.  I think the Galaxie 3 is a great bundle of patterns, very useful for travelling and great as a gift .  The best part is that you do not need any interfacing, so it is just non stretch fabric that you need. There are 3 patterns includes, of which two you can make in a small and large size. I made the small Eclipse, so the small purse organizer. Something I wanted to sew for a long time, but never found the time to do so. A deadline is always the best way for me to actually finish a project quickly. The pattern has 8 outer pockets, one zipper pouch and four compartments. So enough room to store my wallet, keys, tissues and all the other stuff that is n...

How about sewing your own (no show) socks?

I love to sew new things I have never sewed before! So when I saw the tester call for socks, even better, no show socks , I jumped on the opportunity to apply to test these socks by The Wolf and the Tree. I have never sewed socks before so I was really curious how they would hold up. There are several options in the pattern, no show anklets, regular rise no show socks and no show low rise socks. I sewed the regular rise no socks. The pattern consists of only 4 pattern pieces and you can easily blend between sizes. Apparently I have wide feet for the length that I have. The socks sew up so quickly and the fit is spot on. I used the socks in my sneakers and indeed they did not show and stay put! Another challenge that came up with this pattern is photographing your own socks. Have you ever photographed socks? I have not and it was quite a challenge I must admit. Luckily there were a few tester that made pictures before me so I had some inspiration. First I had to think of some posi...

A dress for the night: Nora Kate Nightgown

Our girl loves nightgowns and was is need of new pjs. The Nora Kate Nightgown * by  Annelaine Patterns  is just perfect for the occasion, especially with the winter season coming up. I love patterns that have many options. Annelaine Patterns have many options, which means you can use the pattern several times and make a different option every time. Also with this nightgown you can use it for any season in different lengths. I made the calf length with the tall ruffle (there is also a less tall ruffle). But since our girl loves long dresses, I made the longest nightgown that was possible. The nightgown is an easy sew and it does not use too much fabric, which I love. I used about 70 cm from the giraffe fabric. After making photos our girl kept the nightgown on for the rest of the day (we were not going outside anymore) and slept in it. So it was a great succes! Annelaine Patterns is having a Black Fall Sale, which means 50% off all non-clearance patterns, through ...

Fibre Mood Frida Jacket: my perspective

There is a new  Fibre Mood * magazine in town. I sewed the  Frida Jacket , a jacket perfect for thicker types of fabric. The jacket is already one of my favourites at the moment, especially with the nice and warm fabric, it feels so cozy. I love the collar of the jacket and the welt pocket. I love welt pockets, the only hurdle is sewing them. I must admit the instructions in this Fibre Mood were not my cup of tea. Some instructions are a better fit with me than others. Luckily, there is always youtube and after watching some movies welt pockets are actually not that difficult. I am happy with the result in the end. If you are thinking about making the Frida Jacket there are a couple of things you should keep in mind when sewing the Frida. First of all, a couple of others already mentioned it before I started, the Frida is a short model. I am 162 (5'3) and I did not change anything to the length, however if you are a bit taller, I would definitely leng...

Another Cozy garment: the Cozy dress

Sometimes you have these patterns, every time you see them you feel the love and feel like you should sew that pattern. That is how I felt with the Cozy Dress by Made by Runi . Every single version I saw I just loved. If you feel the same, now is your chance to get the Cozy Dress with a discount because it is pattern of the week! The best part about this dress is that it is a quick sew with a great result! It has dolman sleeves, so you basically have 4 pattern pieces for the whole dress! I love the shorter front and longer back, such a cute detail. And the cowl, I love cowls on dresses, unfortunately our girls are not always a fan of cowls. Luckily our middle daughter just loves everything I sew for her and isn't too picky about the pattern so I sewed it for her. Our eldest would miss the twirl factor of the skirt. I added about 2 centimeters in width to the cowl because our girl doesn't like fabric to be too close to her neck. I also added 1,5 cm to the length of ...

Bonfire sweater for women

Today the second Miss pattern (sizes 0-20) by Sofiona Designs is released. The Bonfire hoodie was already released for girls (sizes 2-16) now you can twin with your girl with your own Miss Bonfire sweater. I was one of the lucky testers and am going to show you two sweaters that I sewed during testing. This black sweater is the final pattern (I will show another one that I made with a previous version of the pattern). Miss Bonfire is just a winner because of all the options that are included. I love the colour block options. The front is great for beautiful treasured pieces of fabric and I love the colour blocked sleeves, definitely a great aspect of the pattern! Additionally, I love the curve of the hem, shorter on the front and longer on the back. You will never have a cold back again! Another must in a pattern is pockets. It is not just our girls who request pockets I also love it when a pattern has pockets (where else do you store your phone if you are wearing a skirt?...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
