Sew Cucio

Remember this hoodie , with those fun colour blocking lines? There is a new sister in town, it is the Rose Hip Jacket from Sofiona Designs , a cropped jacked for woven fabrics. It has the same colour blocking options as the Clover hoodie as well as the zippered sleeve pocket. Additionally, it has optional welt pockets and double cuffs. The Rose hip is definitely a more extensive pattern, as in it takes more time to sew it up. I included all the optional extras as the zippered sleeve pocket and the welt pockets (I even took the time to make sure the fabric continued in the welt pockets). It took me all week from start to finish, but I am so proud of it. I am jealous of the jacket and I am patiently waiting to see when the Miss pattern will come. Testing for myself is something I really like because my wardrobe grows with handmade items, which always fit much better than store bought clothing, and I often get challenged during testing. Sometimes with new techniques, sometimes with clothing that are outside of my comfort zone, but turn out awesome in the end, sometimes also with fabric choices. I also like that I learn about my own body measurements and the changes that I have to do for each pattern. This makes it easier for future patterns that I am going to make. Meet the new pink (!) Tops and vests are actually the most useful things to sew. They make a little bit too summery patterns suitable for colder weather. Our eldest really is a dress/skirt kind of girl, especially maxi dresses. The dresses I have sewed lately are mostly sleeveless or have short sleeves, and the new Raspberry cover-up/top from Sofiona Designs is great to wear over a dress or top. I do not often sew with woven fabrics, but I do have a stash of woven fabrics. With my woven fabrics I never know what pattern to use. The new Raspberry is great for your flowy woven fabrics. The Raspberry is a cover-up/ top that comes in 3 different lengths. I made the shortest length, shirt length, there is also knee length and full length. You can either do short sleeves or sleeveless. Additionally you can add a ruffle to the sleeves and bottom of the top, and do one or two ties. Well get your zippers ready because everybody will want arm pockets after seeing this amazing hoodie. It is the Clover hoodie from Sofiona Designs . It is an amazing sweater with lots of colour block options and that pocket... The Clover hoodie has many different options. It has three different styles for the front and back of the bodice. I made view A (see the pictures af the bottom of this blog post with the cactus fabric) and view B (with the unicorns). There is also a view C with no style lines in the bodice. View A is great for combing different fabrics and if you like colour blocking like I do. View B has fewer sewing lines and after seeing people in our tester group using piping I wanted to try that. We feel summer is around the corner with all that sunshine. So I thought let's start with summer clothing. Actually, I sewed these wonderful Dandelion Tank Peplum by Sofiona Designs already last summer but I didn't get around to post them on my blog (and showing them during winter seemed a bit odd, so here they are). The best part about these tops is the back and the binding that you can choose to sew to the inside or to the outside. I opted for both tops to flip them to the outside so you can see the pop of colour. For the top for our eldest I used a panel and for the peplum part I only wanted the triangular pieces so I had to adapt the 3/4 circle skirt. So the skirt is not that twirly. The pattern also includes a regular tank without the peplum skirt. Also two different lengths of the peplum skirt are included. Aren't they cute toghether and small in comparison to now?! I love geometric lines in sewing patterns and I also love them because you can easily use these lines for colour blocking. The new released Cattail Tank/Dress from Sofiona Designs totally fits this description. I love the diagonal line on the back of the dress, but also the stripe on the front of the dress. This pattern is going to be a staple in our girls’ wardrobe. Now I am only waiting for the women’s version. The Cattail is a very versatile pattern as it includes a tank, a knee length dress and a maxi dress and it doesn’t need too much fabric. Especially for a maxi dress this is a plus, especially with all the colour blocking you just need long stripes of fabric. For the maxi dress I used 115 cm (size 6 length). Besides the different garments you can make a racerback or an angled back (with a cute hole in the neck). Sofiona Designs always lives up to bringing new exciting patterns, at least that is what I think. Also this time they deliver, they designed a bracelet that is quick and so much fun to sew and great as a present (think Christmas gifts). The best part about it all is that you can get the Snowshoe Cuff for free if you sign up for the newsletter. You can do that with the black box on the right side on their website ! I just love this Snowshoe cuff because the design is so clever, it is a quick sew and it is perfect as a gift. You actually don't need a sewing machine (unless you using fabric that frays, you might want to consider sewing the edges). You need a rotary cutter, some snaps and scraps. That is another part that I like, you can use all those small leftovers. The pattern is designed for heavier non fray fabrics, such as (faux) leather, cork, suede, scuba.
