Celebration time: Regina add-on

First day at school dress - Wendybird dress times two

Something about a donkey that doesn't hurts itself twice on the same stone (Dunglish expression), or in correct English a fox is not caught twice in the same snare. I sewed the Wendybird dress by Stitch Upon a Time* for our eldest for her first day at school. But something went wrong while cutting of the fabric. The first dress I sewed is the frog dress with the blue and yellow stripes. Well actually several things went wrong when cutting the skirt panel. First, I mixed up the width and height of the panel piece. The stripes were supposed to be horizontal instead of vertical, well I do not mind the mix up. Second, the pattern piece for the skirt panel (the stripe fabric in the skirt) is written down in measurements in the pattern instead of having a pattern piece. Of course I forgot, or at least didn't think of it during cutting, that I used a different size for the width of the dress as for the length. So my skirt panel was quite a bit shorter than the ot...

What do you think of international patterns? Already some time ago I became part of the International Knit Sew-a-Longs Facebook group. A very inspirational group with just international sewing patterns. One of the often referred to site is a great German site: Makerist (they also have an English site , however only the English patterns are on the English site), with lots of German patterns. The Tilt by Kleiner Polli-Klecks is one of those German patterns. When I saw the Tilt I just loved it! You know me, colour blocking and all! The Tilt is a pattern for a t-shirt and a dress. It starts at 86 and goes up to 128 (these all refer to the length of your kid in cm). Some people are a bit scared for sewing with German patterns. You really shouldn't, Google translate really helps and this pattern has great photos, as a visual person that makes things much easier. A colourblock BeeStyle

I love colour blocking, I think everybody knows that by now. And I love bold colour combinations. This t-shirt is the perfect example of that. I got to know this pattern through her of course (Inspinration). You can see she also made two bold versions of this pattern. It is a German pattern, BeeStyle , with great colour blocking potential. It has many different options: different hoods, a collar, two different types of pockets ( she of course added a pocket), a regular and a tunic length and you can add a thumbhole cuffs. It is the perfect pattern for a sweater but can also be used to sew a t-shirt. Although the instructions are in German every step is accompanied with a photo and since I am a visual person, I mainly needed the photos to sew the t-shirt. Summer sewing has started! We are still waiting for summer temperatures to arrive, but at least every once in a while the sun is showing itself. The Tammy dress * from Annelaine Patterns is perfect for summer! The Tammy dress comes in a wide size range from 9M - 20 and has several options. Our girl picked out the fabric of the bodice. It is from Lillestoff. I used this fabric already before. I pre-selected a couple of fabric choices from my stash for her. I am really trying to use the fabric that I already own for a longer period. The fabric for the skirt is also already in my stash for a long period of time and it is a very flowy fabric. I find it quite a challenge to sew with, and it easily gathers. Kite Fold Tee Colour Block Competition

Colour blocking and Madeit Patterns , the perfect combination for me. I love colour blocking and I adore Madeit Patterns. I own many Madeit Patterns (I have sewed two Groove dresses and before I started my blog I hacked the balloon fold dress into a top and I sewed the pocket fold skirt ). Two Groove dresses in one week!

I have a large pile of patterns (so to speak as most of them are digital). I keep track of my patterns and try to sew a new pattern every month, as the pile of patterns keeps growing. Every time I am persuaded to buy a pattern and before I have sewed it I have bought a new one. Anybody else has this same problem? But this time it was different. Our eldest girl started school and two days before the week started I came up with the idea to sew her a 'first day at school' outfit. I started looking for a pattern that confirmed to the strict rules of our daughter. 1) it has to be dress, 2) it has to be a dress in which she can dance, which means it has to twirl. And it should be an easy sew as I only had the weekend, in which also the birthday party was planned, so not too much time to sew.
