Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Cattail (maxi) dress

I love geometric lines in sewing patterns and I also love them because you can easily use these lines for colour blocking. The new released Cattail Tank/Dress from Sofiona Designs totally fits this description. I love the diagonal line on the back of the dress, but also the stripe on the front of the dress. This pattern is going to be a staple in our girls’ wardrobe. Now I am only waiting for the women’s version. The Cattail is a very versatile pattern as it includes a tank, a knee length dress and a maxi dress and it doesn’t need too much fabric. Especially for a maxi dress this is a plus, especially with all the colour blocking you just need long stripes of fabric. For the maxi dress I used 115 cm (size 6 length). Besides the different garments you can make a racerback or an angled back (with a cute hole in the neck). I sewed two dresses during testing, a maxi dress with an angled back and a knee length dress also with an angled back. I just love the line in the ...

Suspender Skirt from Candy Castle Patterns

Look at that those cute suspenders, it makes me long for spring and summer! The new Lunch Bag Suspender Skirt by  Candy Castle Patterns * is a skirt with two lengths. I made the skirt at the knee length, there is also a more vintage above the knee length. You can add the suspenders but you can also leave the suspenders off but I love the suspenders and feel that makes the skirt super cute. What I really like about a pattern is when you can use the pattern both for woven and knit fabrics. This skirt can! The bunny fabric is knit while I used woven for the suspenders. It really is a quick sew and it has two types of pockets, so lot of options to make different types of skirts. I used the basic waistband option, also the paperbag waist option is included. Our girl loves her bunny skirt!  Use code LUNCH for an introductory 20% off your Lunch Bag Suspender Skirt Pattern!  Valid through Feb 27, 11:59 PM MST. Fabric : bunny fabric from Textielstad Pat...

Problem solving with take the plunge

This year, 2020, has been a challenging sewing year. I guess being busy and trying to fit the sewing in between all the activities and being sleep deprived are not the best circumstances. Just like with  this top  I had some cutting issues. I had to get creative and solve some fabric issues but I love the Take the plunge from Made by Runi . The first thing I like about the Take the plunge top is the lower back reduction. I usually take out excess fabric at the back so when I saw this option I wanted to try it out and it works great. No cutting issues here yet... Because I already did not have the right height of my fabric to cut out the second sleeve I added an extra colour block. I love colour blocks and asymmetrical garments are even better. Only when I started sewing did I realise I cut out the wrong front piece (as in another back piece). Of course I did not have enough fabric to cut a new front. I like to get my garments out of pieces of fabric that are just the ri...
