Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Sew all the underwear

I am definitely a fabric hoarder, I do not want to throw away any fabric. Therefore, projects that are great for scraps are right up my alley, enter underwear sewing patterns. Our girls only wear self sewed underwear and do not know any differently. I started sewing because our girls were rather small when they were potty trained so I could not find any store bought underwear that wouldn't slide down their butts. I just love that I can use up my scraps and also other people's beautiful scraps. I get so happy with the colourful underwear which brighten up my day. I have used several different patterns and I wanted to compare them so here is my overview of three underwear patterns for kids: Kid's Scrundlewear by Stitch upon a Time *, the Play Pants by Madeit Patterns and the Norma Jean Juniors by Sew by Pattern Pieces . Below you see the Kid's scrundlewear on the left and the Norma Jean Juniors on the right. When our girls were potty trained I started with the Scru...

Kite Fold Tee Colour Block Competition

Colour blocking and Madeit Patterns , the perfect combination for me. I love colour blocking and I adore Madeit Patterns. I own many Madeit Patterns (I have sewed two  Groove dresses  and before I started my blog I hacked the balloon fold dress into a top and I sewed the pocket fold skirt ). The Kite Fold Tee is one of the patterns that I did not sew yet. Then I received an email that the Kite Fold Tee was updated with long sleeves! This just perfectly fitted my intentions of sewing some long sleeved t-shirts for our eldest girl.  I love colour blocking with as many different fabrics as possible. Yes, I love bold combinations! The Kite Fold Tee is perfect for that. I even got an extra push when Madeit Patterns announced the  Kite Fold Tee Colour Block Competition , how exciting! So time to sew up a kite fold tee with long sleeves! For our  sewing weekend  in February I decided to bring some fabric with me of which I had only a small pi...

Two Groove dresses in one week!

I have a large pile of patterns (so to speak as most of them are digital). I keep track of my patterns and try to sew a new pattern every month, as the pile of patterns keeps growing. Every time I am persuaded to buy a pattern and before I have sewed it I have bought a new one. Anybody else has this same problem? But this time it was different. Our eldest girl started school and two days before the week started I came up with the idea to sew her a 'first day at school' outfit. I started looking for a pattern that confirmed to the strict rules of our daughter. 1) it has to be dress, 2) it has to be a dress in which she can dance, which means it has to twirl. And it should be an easy sew as I only had the weekend, in which also the birthday party was planned, so not too much time to sew.  I came across the Groove Dress from Madeit Patterns and thought it would be the perfect fit. I bought it on Saturday morning and sewed the first Groove dress within 24 hours. That has...
