Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

Sofshell SHO! Jacket

Our middle girl was in need of a new coat. I had some fabric left from  this softshell coat  (also for our middle girl, wasn't she small back then?), but not enough for a whole coat. Plus I like colour blocking and combining fabrics, so I ordered some new softshell fabric to make the  Kids Jacket  from  SHO!  The red softshell is actually a very special fabric as clouds will appear on the fabric when it gets wet, how cool is that?! The SHO! Kids Jacket is for non-stretch fabrics. I used the chest size of our daughter and sized up in length, so that hopefully she can wear it another year. I love the asymmetrical front and diagonal zipper. Also the cowl neck is an eyecatcher, although you cannot see it that well as our daughter put it down in the pictures.  The top front of the flap is lined. You can also choose to fully line the whole jacket. I also like the flap behind the zipper. It looks so much better when you have the zipper just halfway up...

A softshell Fairtytale coat

A softshell coat for our eldest was already in the planning for half a year. However with pattern tests and other clothing that were more needed, the softshell coat kept on being pushed forward. Then we were going to one of the Frisian Island for a couple of days and the weather forecast wasn't that good. So our girl needed a softshell coat right away (this was about a week before we left). I always work best with deadlines so before we left I had sewed a softshell coat for our eldest. When I saw the  Fairytale Hoodie  by  Made by Runi  I knew it would be perfect to make a coat for our girl. It is a coat that looks like a dress, has a great twirl factor and is long at the back. So it ticks off all demands our girl has for clothing. Although the pattern is desinged for knits already many others have made it in softshell. In the pattern it is recommended to size up one size if you are using softshell. Looking at the size chart (search the   Facebook group ...

Arja softshell coat and extra baby wearing add on

I made my first coat and it is a softshell coat! Already quite some time ago I saw the Arja Jacket at makerist and I put it on my sewing list. Only just a couple of months ago I finally bought it with the Muksu add on , which is an add on so that a baby in a baby carrier is also covered by the coat. What I like so much about the Arja Coat are the different options it has. The Arja originally is a vest pattern, but there are also instructions if you want to make it in softshell (for free). So that is what I did and these tips are great. I made a softshell coat with a collar (there is also the option of a hood) and zippers in the pockets (you can also opt for a pocket without a zipper and with or without paspel). I of course love the fact that you  can easily make a colour blocked coat with the different pattern pieces. By playing with different fabrics you can give it a different feel. There are also two different lengths in the pattern, I chose the long version, but you ca...

My first coat - softshell Zipfeljacke Bella

Our youngest girl needed a new coat. Although we have two girls and both girls are born in the same month, you might expect that for our second daughter we don't need much new clothes. That is not always the case, sometimes I miss certain items. This was the case for the coat. I wanted to make a softshell coat which are very useful in our Dutch summers. It is either  very hot and we don't wear a coat, or it is  cold and raining, enter the softshell coat. I came across the softshell coat that  HipenHeppie  made. I loved her version. She used a free pattern, the  Zipfeljacke Bella  from  Rabaukennaht . I love the colour blocking of the coat and the hood, it looks so cute with the drawstings attached to it.  The original pattern is with buttons instead of a zipper, but as HipenHeppie explains, it can be changed quite easily. Of course that was not the only change that I wanted to make I also wanted to add a collar. I wanted a coat with both a c...
