Sofilantjes quartet: Cicero, Foliis, Domi and Regina

I love patterns by Sofilantjes and so does our girl. Mostly because the dresses by Sofilantjes twirl. The last couple of months I have sewn several Sofilantjes patterns so I decided to combine four Sofilantjes* patterns in one post: here are my Cicero jacket, Foliis Jacket, Domi sweat pants and Regina dress! Get ready for a photo overload! Four patterns in one post means lots of photos!

Sometimes I have these projects that I fall in love with right away. I start the project and then other things happen and these projects stay on the UFO (unfinished objects) pile. The Cicero jacket was like this. I started cutting the cicero on the last day of our sewing weekend in the beginning of last year (which is more than one year ago!). Then I started other projects as our girl requested dresses. During the summer I started sewing the Cicero together but I did not have the right color zipper. So again the project stagnated and it took me again some time before it was finished. Finally, here it is!

The Foliis jacket perfectly fits the wishes of our eldest: it looks like a dress (it is actually long enough to be worn without pants at the moment) but she can wear it to school on top of pants. I loved the look of the Foliis and now that I have made it I love the line of the dress even more. It is so nice and dressy and that hood (wow). The hood of the Foliis is something you just have to try. It lays so perfectly, you never want to use another hood again!

The Domi sweat pants was a pattern that I already owned for a long time. Our eldest was in need of sweatpants, so finally I could make her pants. Usually I don't like to sew pants, they easily break (our eldest likes to climb, run and often falls) so pants do not last too long when they are not made of jeans fabric. But these Domi sweat pants are great, they were an easy sew and since our girl usually just wears these during the weekends at home they will hopefully last for a while.

I had to hack the Domi sweat pants because this was the very last piece of fabric I had from this owl fabric. I believe these were one of my very first fabric buys almost 4 years ago. So time to finish the last left over. I cut the pattern pieces of the pants in pieces so that the pants had triangular knee patches. Color blocking is always a great way of hacking a pattern. I love the result and all of the owl fabric is now finished!

The fourth Sofilantjes pattern that I sewed is the Regina dress. During testing I made the tunic version of the Regina. I knew that I also just had to sew a version with a gathered circle skirt. Our eldest daughter would looove a dress like that. So that was what I did. Just before Christmas I sewed the Regina Dress and indeed it was an instant hit! It is her favourite dress at the moment because the skirt goes up so high. Hopefully she will like it when I will sew her dresses that do not twirl that much.

Fabric: Cicero: the plain sweat fabrics I all bought in Italy, the mint fabric: geometric party blocks bought at joyfits. Foliis jacket: I bought the grey fabric at de stoffenmadam. Domi sweat pants: I bought the owl fabric at stoffen.net. Regina: the flamingo fabric comes from Stoffenfeest and I bought the fabric for the skirt in Italy.
