There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley. Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Do you also find pants in just one colour too boring for your kids? I do! I am always looking for a way to spice up pants (if I sew pants or leggings) and add a colour block. Then we were asked to make a video tutorial for a video party. I decided to make a video tutorial on colour blocking bell bottom pants, our girl would hopefully love these. I used the Fit Pants by Mamma Can Do It*.
These pants are just perfect because they have different options: skinny, regular, bell bottom or wide leg widths. It is available is sizes preemie until 20 for everybody in your family (babies, boys, girls, women and men). It also has different length options: shorts, thigh, knee, capris and full length. Go and have a look at the video on how to colour block bell bottom shaped (fit) pants. The video party starts today and there will be several tutorial videos everyday until September 27, go and have a look!
Our eldest does not like pants, she is a dress kinda girl and just always wants to wear a dress. So what I usually sew for her are dresses. But then I saw bell bottom shaped pants and I just loved those! I thought our girl would love these, because they kinda twirl at the bottom. To make them less boring I decided to add a colour block.
I used a sweat knit fabric for the pants, this is nice and warm during winter and it is nice and thick so they will last longer. For the colour blocking parts I used a piece of fabric by Lotte Martens. During our sewing weekend I found a scrap of Pretoria Scuba from her from Kaatjenaaisels. She made this beautiful dress and this was a left over piece.
When our daughter saw the pants, she said "oh wow they sparkle and I have elephant legs now" (because of the wide shape of the pants). Well she loves the pants, so mission accomplished!
Fabric: Pretoria Scuba by Lotte Martens and sweat knit that I bought several years ago at joyfits.
