Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. The most amazing peppermint swirl skirt

I have been drooling over the Peppermint Swirl Dress by Candy Castle Patterns* for quite some time. I mean have you seen that dress!! It it just the most amazing dress with an even better twirl. Then I saw a call for testers to update the free tutorial for the Peppermint Swirl Skirt. So I was hopping up and down and waving enthusiastically to be noticed! Then I got picked (YAY) and I was over the moon!

On to the Peppermint Swirl Skirt. If you have never seen the Peppermint Swirl Dress or Skirt it is a dress/skirt made out of multiple flounces which makes it the twirliest skirt that is even bigger than a circle skirt. The sizing of the skirt starts at 6M and goes up adult sizing. What you need is different colours of woven fabric and bias band (I used almost 9 meters of bias band for this skirt, size 4Y). The great thing about this skirt is that the waistband is completely customised to fit the person who is wearing it. 
During my last sewing weekend I decided to sew up the skirt and a lot people got intrigued by the process of sewing (and cutting) the skirt. And indeed it is a different process from what I was used to, the skirt really comes together as you are sewing it. It took me around 6 hours to sew up the skirt of which it took me 1,5 hours to cut all the different flounces. Of course picking out the fabric took me some time as well, but luckily I did that before I left home. It was actually a great way to destash my woven stash. I still have quite some woven fabric at home, but I rarely sew with woven fabric. So I had a great selection of different colours that I could chose from. I used 7 different colours of flounces for my skirt (and used 8 different colours for my skirt). I only had to buy two new colours to match my rainbow colour scheme. I love the colours!
When I came back home and showed the dress to our eldest, she loved it, however she said her favourite dress (from the things that I sewed for her during my weekend) was another dress which she requested after my last sewing weekend (soon on the blog). I sewed a dress for her sister and of course she wanted one as well. Now, a couple of weeks later, she wore the skirt every single moment when possible, so I would say it was a great success!

Sizing: the skirt and dress start at 6M and go up to adult sizes (you can easily adapt the length and waistline of the skirt to your sizes). 
Difficulty: It is not a quick sew. I would classify it as an intermediate sewing pattern, it just takes time. Reading the instructions carefully before hand are essential in determining the size.

One Thimble 17: Big Day Out Jacket

I just love blog tours! It is so nice to see the different perspective of different sewers on the same projects. The One Thimble Magazine* is a great way to bet to know different designers in one magazine. For me this was my first time sewing something from One Thimble. Although I have sewed a pattern that was part of a previous version from One Thimble ( Orbis Sinny Harem Pants  by Sofilantjes in One Thimble 13 ).  In the newest One Thimble, issue 17 I sewed the Big Day Out Jacket by Ainslee Fox Boutique Patterns .  The Big Day Out Jacket is a denim jacket. My version looks like a denim jacket but actually I sewed the jacket from french terry and sweat fabrics with a denim look. With this jacket you can go all out!
