Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Risu dress by Sofilantjes

Yay, a new pattern from Sofilantjes*. It is the Risu dressNew patterns from Sofilantjes are always a big hit in our house. One, our girls love the Sofilantjes dresses (although the eldest preferred a different dress because of the not twirling skirt, therefore I sewed it for our middle daughter). Two, I love to sew Sofilantjes dresses.
I pre-tested this dress, so there might be small changes in the final pattern, but I must say it fits our girl perfectly. The Risu dress catches everybody's eye because of that beautiful back. I love it. Besides that I love the idea of the one pocket on just one side of the dress. You know I love asymmetrical patterns. Of course you can just add two pockets if you like symmetry.
Another feature of the Risu dress is the V-shaped neckline. You can see I cut one of the neckline pattern pieces upside down, I have to pay attention to that next time (it didn't bother me enough to unpick it and cut it again).
This dress is not a quick sew as a lot of Sofilantjes dresses are. It takes a bit more time. But I have to admit that more challenging patterns give me more satisfaction when I am done and I can admire the result. This pattern is not difficult at all, but it takes a bit more time.
The Risu release sale will run from June 6, 08.00 CET through June 10, 08.00 CET. The pattern is on sale for €5 - ex taxes (6.05 incl EU taxes), no code needed. After the sale it will be €7 not incl taxes. Go get it now! You will love it (if your girl loves twirly skirts like our eldest, you can just add a different Sofilantjes skirt).
Fabric: I bought the canoe fabric at Megastoffen a while ago. The rest are scraps from this sweater and from our sewing weekend.

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
