There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley. Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Ever since I sewed my first swimsuit I have overcome my fear for sewing swimwear. Nevertheless, I have not sewed one since then. Then I saw a tester call for the Moonbean Swimsuit by Petite Stitchery*, wow, I loved the cut-out version right away! I was one of the lucky testers to be chosen to test the Moonbeam Swimsuit.
Fabric: the leaves fabric was a coupon at Naaiplezier. The purple and pink lycra comes from Bas Bastiaans. My swim lining and swim elastic come from Lijfgoed.
Pattern: the Moonbeam Swimsuit by Petite Stitchery (women's Moonbeam swimsuit is also available)
Sizing: 2Y - 17 (also available for women)
Options: there is a one piece swimsuit, a cutout swimsuit, a swim dress with pockets and you can add a flounce.
Difficulty: it is a pretty easy pattern to sew
I
sewed two swimsuits during the test because there were small changes in
the pattern. And now I just love sewing swimwear. You get to sew an
original swimsuit (I love original one of a kind patterns) and you don't need much
fabric. You do need some specific haberdasheries like swimelastic and
swimsuit lining. I sewed the elastic with a regular zigzag stitch. I also have my coverlock, but I prefer my regular sewing machine. What I like about this pattern is that it uses the trunk length to adapt the pattern for different lengths and I really like that way of adapting a pattern for length.
The Moonbeam swimsuit has several options and actually is a quick sew. There is a one piece swimsuit and a cutout swimsuit, which I sewed. Additionally, you can sew a swim dress with pockets (!!) and you can add a flounce. Sizing starts at 2Y and goes up all the way to 17 and also a women's Moonbeam swimsuit is available. I love the look of the cut out swimsuit that looks like a bikini, but is a swimsuit. I always have to get the hang of swimming elastic in swimsuits, but after that it is not a difficult pattern at all and looks amazing!Fabric: the leaves fabric was a coupon at Naaiplezier.
