Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

My first pair of trousers: Gobi Culottes

I cannot believe it, but I sewed my first pair of trousers and I love them! I am so proud of myself! The Gobi Culottes by Itch to Stitch * are designed for twill, non stretch, woven fabrics. I used a twill fabric with a very soft inside that I bought at Textielstad. They are so comfortable! I have never sewed pants because they look complicated and they take a long time. I did underestimate the time it would take to sew these pants. Just tracing the pattern pieces already took me a couple of hours (there are many different pattern pieces). Then sewing the pants took me longer than expected, but the result is so satisfying. I might sew pants more often. It is great to have well fitting pants. Every time I sew an Itch to Stitch pattern I am always impressed with how easily the pattern is sewed up because the instruction breaks up the construction in many small steps.  I love the result, love the details and also love that they are finished. I lengthened the ...

When things do not go as planned

I almost always sew at night when the kids are in bed. Usually this works great, but sometimes I am tired and mistakes creep in my sewing, This project was just like that, it just did not go as I had planned.   I always plan out my fabric choices very carefully, so did I for the Super Mega Comfy Top by Made by Runi . I cut my front and back panel and was very happy that I was just able to have enough for my top. Oh wait, then I realised I still needed to cut the sleeves (grrrr). I didn't want to waste the fabric I had already cut and decided to cut the sleeves from a different fabric. Now what to do, cut the sleeves from the same fabric that I had planned for the colour block? Luckily I did not do that. I choose another fabric and it works well. Although next time I would choose one fabric for the bodice and sleeves and a different for the colour block (just as I had planned).   The unique detail about the super mega comfy top are the longer side elements of...

Two times nori wrap dresses

Wrap dresses are always lovely and the  Nori wrap dress and top  from  Elliedactyl  is a favorite here! Especially since you can do some colour blocking! I bought the  Nori wrap dress and top  from  Elliedactyl  already 2,5 years ago but never sewed one up. During  my sewing weekend  in February I sewed one for our middle daughter in flamingo fabric. She loved it! When I came back our eldest wanted one as well! I planned one out and traced the pattern, however there were other projects that got more priority in sewing. Then I had  another sewing weekend . These weekends are perfect for sewing all those project I have planned but never had the time to sew up (at least other projects got more priority). So the first project I sewed during this sewing weekend was sewing a nori wrap dress for our eldest, also in (different) flamingo fabric. The Nori wrap dress starts at 3M and I must say I am usually persuaded to buy a cute ...

My favourite summer dress: Vallis dress

I had the Vallis tunic and dress * already on my sewing list for some time. With our summer holiday in sight I decided it was time to sew it up, and now I have a new favourite summer dress! The Vallis by  Sofilantjes  is a quick sew and has a wow factor when you wear it! The bodice and back is always the same but it includes different ways to sew up the seam. I used the asymmetrical seam and I love it, but I love asymmetrical garments so no surprise there. I am only 162, while the pattern is drawn for 168 cm. I did not shorten it because I like my dresses to be on my knee. Keep that in mind when you are sewing up your dress. The Vallis is just the perfect summer dress because it is nice and flowy, look at my twirl below, it covers a belly quite nicely. So you don't have to keep in mind what you eat during summer and it covers your bra straps nicely. Next time I would maybe lower the armpits by 1 cm to get an even better fit. Now I just need to sew it up for our ...

Swimsuits for the girls

I found a new joy, sewing swimsuits (see  this swimsuit  and  this swimsuit  which I sewed before). Our eldest swims every week so sewing a swimsuit will be used every week, not only during summer. But it all started when I wanted to sew a bikini bottom for our middle daughter. During summer our girls mostly wear UV shirts when they swim outside so they mostly need bikini bottoms. So I started looking for swim bottoms with a skirt attached, because of course our girls wanted skirts on their bikini bottoms. Our middle daughter is very small in her hips so I had to find a bikini bottom that had a size 6M-9M hips size (without a diaper) and needed to have the option of a skirt. It took me quite some time. Either I did find a great looking bikini pattern but it started at 2Y or 12M and was still not the right size for our girl, or I did find a pattern with the right size but without the right options. In the end I found the  Children's Mairin Swims...

Release of the moonbeam swimsuit

Ever since I sewed my first swimsuit I have overcome my fear for sewing swimwear. Nevertheless, I have not sewed one since then. Then I saw a tester call for the Moonbean Swimsuit by Petite Stitchery *, wow, I loved the cut-out version right away! I was one of the lucky testers to be chosen to test the Moonbeam Swimsuit .   I sewed two swimsuits during the test because there were small changes in the pattern. And now I just love sewing swimwear. You get to sew an original swimsuit (I love original one of a kind patterns) and you don't need much fabric. You do need some specific haberdasheries like swimelastic and swimsuit lining. I sewed the elastic with a regular zigzag stitch. I also have my coverlock, but I prefer my regular sewing machine. What I like about this pattern is that it uses the trunk length to adapt the pattern for different lengths and I really like that way of adapting a pattern for length.       The Moonbeam swimsuit has several o...

Loosen up in a fabulous skirt

I sewed up another set of Made by Runi patterns. Made by Runi patterns are pretty popular with our eldest, she loves the skirts and dresses (remember this dress and this coat ) and the colour blocking options of the garments (the more different colours the better). As a summer outfit I sewed up the Loosen up top and Feeling Fabulous skirt . With the great summer weather we are having our eldest could use some extra tops. The Loosen up top has different options. There are two different colour block options, a plain top and there are two different back options. I made the racer back option, but there is also a tank option for the back. The colour block options are great for scraps as you don't need much fabric. Due to the gathering at the front and back it is a loose fitted top. The pattern has a band at the bottom of the top. I left the bottom band off so our girl can tuck the top in her skirt, which she prefers. I just added 2 cm to the bottom of the skirt and hemme...
