Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. When things do not go as planned

I almost always sew at night when the kids are in bed. Usually this works great, but sometimes I am tired and mistakes creep in my sewing, This project was just like that, it just did not go as I had planned.
I always plan out my fabric choices very carefully, so did I for the Super Mega Comfy Top by Made by Runi. I cut my front and back panel and was very happy that I was just able to have enough for my top. Oh wait, then I realised I still needed to cut the sleeves (grrrr). I didn't want to waste the fabric I had already cut and decided to cut the sleeves from a different fabric. Now what to do, cut the sleeves from the same fabric that I had planned for the colour block? Luckily I did not do that. I choose another fabric and it works well. Although next time I would choose one fabric for the bodice and sleeves and a different for the colour block (just as I had planned).
The unique detail about the super mega comfy top are the longer side elements of the top, which look great over leggings, trousers and even skirts! Of course I love the colour block element, which gives me the opportunity to combine different fabrics. I think my first fall items turned out great and will get a lot of wear the coming months.
The pattern is discounted until Tuesday August 20, 9.00 am CET. Just like the women's super mega comfy top that is also released today.
Fabric: the lillestoff fabric was a leftover from this dress. The uni coloured orange fabric comes from de Stoffenstraat.
Pattern: Super Mega Comfy Top by Made by Runi
Sizing: 80-164 (European sizes). Also the women's super mega comfy top is available (32-54).
Options: There are three sleeve lengths (short, 3/4 and long sleeve), you can add a colour block to the sides (or sew it without the colour block) and there are two different back lengths (same as the front or longer).
Difficulty: easy pattern (sewing the corners neatly is the only thing that takes a bit longer)

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
