Sew Cucio

Our favourite dress from Made by Runi for our girls, me and my husband is the Fairy princess dress. Here  you can find the previous one that I sewed. I just love that double skirt with the high-low of the top skirt. So during my last sewing weekend I sewed two for our two eldest girls. I could not really decide on whether long or short sleeves would be the best thing, I made one with long sleeves for our eldest and one with short sleeves for our middle one. I never buy fabric for a certain project, which sometimes makes it a challenge to get the pattern pieces out of the fabric. The dresses have full circle skirts and I wanted to make the skirt for the middle one not as big. With the help of  her  I made a 3/4 circle skirt. A couple of weeks ago I went fabric shopping with  her  at the Nooteboom Textiles store, wow, what a dream place is that. We feel summer is around the corner with all that sunshine. So I thought let's start with summer clothing. Actually, I sewed these wonderful Dandelion Tank Peplum by Sofiona Designs already last summer but I didn't get around to post them on my blog (and showing them during winter seemed a bit odd, so here they are). The best part about these tops is the back and the binding that you can choose to sew to the inside or to the outside. I opted for both tops to flip them to the outside so you can see the pop of colour. For the top for our eldest I used a panel and for the peplum part I only wanted the triangular pieces so I had to adapt the 3/4 circle skirt. So the skirt is not that twirly. The pattern also includes a regular tank without the peplum skirt. Also two different lengths of the peplum skirt are included. Aren't they cute toghether and small in comparison to now?! I am definitely a fabric hoarder, I do not want to throw away any fabric. Therefore, projects that are great for scraps are right up my alley, enter underwear sewing patterns. Our girls only wear self sewed underwear and do not know any differently. I started sewing because our girls were rather small when they were potty trained so I could not find any store bought underwear that wouldn't slide down their butts. I just love that I can use up my scraps and also other people's beautiful scraps. I get so happy with the colourful underwear which brighten up my day. Last weekend I went on a sewing weekend and I try to make something for everybody during such a weekend. For my husband I made another t-shirt. This time I used the Basic Raglan by Made by Runi . It is a great basic pattern that works well and is sewed together very quickly.   I let my husband pick out the fabric and I must say I like the combination that he picked out! There is not much else to say about this project other than it was finished within an hour and it makes a happy man. He feels a bit neglected when it comes to sewing. I sewed 11 items during the sewing weekend, 5 for our eldest, 3 for our middle one, 2 for our youngest and just 1 for him. Our girls love skirts and high low skirts are the best  (the longer the skirts, the better) . Meet the Wallacia Hi Lo Skirt from Wicked Patterns . A hi-lo skirt that you can sew within an hour. It is a quick sew that looks great! ' I sewed two skirts during testing and used the different options. There are two different hem lines, with a curved hem (blue skirt) and a straight hem (flower skirt) and with pockets (flower skirt) or without pockets (blue skirt). I had a piece of fabric of 50 cm and that was enough for the skirt for our 6 year old (size 6 in length). Perfect for those smaller pieces you still have lying around. It is a versatile skirt perfect for our raining days here, but also great for our upcoming (hopefully) warm summer! The skirt is on sale until Sunday March 15th. What is another jacket in your closet? You cannot have enough of those can you? The Billie is the second jacket that I sewed for myself and I love wearing jackets, so these are just perfect for me. The Billie from Petite Stitchery * is a great pattern as you can both use woven fabrics and knit fabrics. I have a big stash of knit fabrics and I do my best to decrease this stash, which is working well so far (no new fabrics during the first two months this year (I just bought a couple new ones yesterday...)). My woven fabric stash is not that big (meaning, not that big as my stretch fabric stash), but I also do not sew often with woven fabrics. So when I get the chance I try to use some of my beautiful woven fabrics. My previous jacket was made of stretch sweat so I used a woven fabric instead this time. I love geometric lines in sewing patterns and I also love them because you can easily use these lines for colour blocking. The new released Cattail Tank/Dress from Sofiona Designs totally fits this description. I love the diagonal line on the back of the dress, but also the stripe on the front of the dress. This pattern is going to be a staple in our girls’ wardrobe. Now I am only waiting for the women’s version. The Cattail is a very versatile pattern as it includes a tank, a knee length dress and a maxi dress and it doesn’t need too much fabric. Especially for a maxi dress this is a plus, especially with all the colour blocking you just need long stripes of fabric. For the maxi dress I used 115 cm (size 6 length). Besides the different garments you can make a racerback or an angled back (with a cute hole in the neck).
