Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Swing tunic!

Although I always like to challenge myself, sometimes I just fall in love with very simple patterns. When I saw the Sophie swing dress and tunic* by Peek-a-boo patterns I knew it would be perfect for our eldest. She only wants to wear dresses, but sometimes pants are the better option. Sweaters that have a twirly element that look like a dress are perfect for these occasions. Therefore I bought the Sophie swing dress and tunic.
Of course I needed to find a piece of fabric that would be perfect for this tunic length I made. Simple patterns are perfect for special pieces of fabric. I bought the Mandala french terry not too long ago at Mamarieke. It is a panel with an orange stripe on one side of the panel. So I needed to carefully think about how to cut the pattern. Because I wanted the orange to come back in the sleeve I had to be creative with the cutting. I cut the sleeve in half and used as much of the orange piece I had left.
I love the collar on the tunic, but you can also use a regular band or hood on the tunic or dress. The pattern comes in sizes 3M to 12Y. I love patterns that come in such wide size ranges, because we have very narrow kids and patterns that start at 1 or 2 years would only be useable for our oldest girl. Now I can use this pattern for all our girls. I wanted to make the tunic extra dress-like so I used width 6Y for the bottom of the tunic and size 3Y (which is the size she is in for her chest) for the chest. I love the result and so does our girl. She still feels it is a dress and long enough according to her (win-win).

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
