Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Regina Tunic and Dress release by Sofilantjes

A royal tunic and dress, isn't that what all girls want? Be a princes or a queen? Our girl definitely always wants to be royal! And with this queen's (=regina) tunic and dress (English)* (link naar Nederlands patroon), that is what you a get, a royal garment.
Patterns by Sofilantjes are always a hit in our household and so was this tunic. She wore it straight away until it had to be washed. The Regina tunic has several options, it has beautiful pleated sleeves or you can make regular sleeves (short or long), it has a pleated skirt (tunic and dress length) or a gathered circle skirt. If you think a circle skirt could twirl, I believe a gathered circle skirt can twirl even better! You can even combine the skirts of the Regina for the Solis, Montis and Litore dresses and of course also use the skirts of these dresses for the Regina bodice, great isn't it?! I love that you can combine the different parts of the Sofilantjes patterns with each other.
I made the pleated tunic with the pleated sleeves. These pleated sleeves are definitely the eyecather of this tunic and dress, they look royal for sure. I am into tunics these last days as they are perfect on top of trousers and our girl still feels she is wearing a dress in which she can dance. Perfect compromise! Additionally, the front and back for this dress are the same so it has a nice slightly wider neckline. Anne from Sofilantjes comes up with something new every time. It is always great to be part of this testing process. So get the pattern while it is on sale for €5 excl tax until Monday midnight. If you have not bought the Regem (=King) t-shirt there is a King and Queen bundle (Koningskoppel bundel) sale as well. This is your chance!
This time I let our girl choose the fabric, as the last couple of times she did not like the things I made her that much, I am hoping to create more commitment by letting her choose the fabric. She chose this fish fabric, which she finds very funny because of the mustached fish. I think this fabric is one of my first buys, more than 3 years ago. So letting our daughter choose also helps in picking older fabric. A great way to diminish my stash.

One last thing, if you have decided to buy the Regina tunic and dress you can win your money back by entering the #freeRegina competition in the Sofilantjes Facebook group. Love to see your creations!

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
