Asymmetrical Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood

There is a new Fibre Mood * released and I got to sew a great sweater from it, the Ellis sweater . The Ellis sweater is very quick sew but stands out because of the split neckband and waistband, such a fun detail! And of course the diagonal colour block is right up my alley.   Our girl picked out the fabric herself, at least the fireworks fabric. I picked out the matching fabric. The print works well with the large piece. The sweater is a bit roomy, that is because there is a size 6 and a size 8 and she doesn't fit in the size 6, but the size 8 is still a bit big on her. Well she can grow into it. At textielstad I bought a couple of multicolour threads . I felt this was the perfect project to try it out and indeed it matches the colours in the sweater very well. Fabric : Starburst French Terry from Second Star Fabric Pattern : Ellis sweater from Fibre Mood Sizing : 2 - 14 Options : just 1, the colour blocked sweater Difficulty : 1 out of 5 stars Sewing time : 1,5 hours # Fabric t...

A comfortable Jasper Dress

After seeing the Jasper Dress (and sweater) from Paprika Patterns by Rachel (from Maak het met Rachel) and Maartje (from Huisje Boompje Boefjes) and also the Jasper sweater by Maartje (from Huisje Boompje Boefjes) I was convinced to buy the pattern. I love that type of dress, it is comfortable and warm during the winter and still looks nice (at least I think so).
In the end I love the result of the dress. I can wear it inside the house, it is so cosy, but is nice enough to wear it to work. I bought the fabric at Hoofs close to my hometown. During our sewing weekend, when I made this dress I came across some nice leftovers from others (Marie-Paule from So Popo Sew and Stéphanie from Naaiz!), which turned out to be a perfect match with my fabric. A winning combination was born!
Changes I made to the pattern:
* More narrow sleeves, I made the pattern in size 2-3 and took the smallest sleeve size (size 1), they are just perfect.
* I shortened the sleeves with 1 cm, still they are nice and long, the way I like it.
* I made a more fitted dress by taking around 2 cm from each side. I often make this change to dresses when the fit is not as fitted as I would like.
* I also lengthened the dress with a couple of cm, this is just because I think a longer dress looks better on me. I saw on other blogs that the length of the dress ends about halfway on the upper leg. I prefer my dresses to be just above the knee.
Pattern: Jasper Sweater/Dress by Paprika Patterns
Fabric:
* main fabric is a combination between sweat and fleece (from the inside), which I bought at Hoofs in Den Bosch
* the side panels are made from a scrap (quite big) by Marie-Paule from So Popo Sew
* the inside of the pockets are also made from a scrap, they were from Stéphanie from Naaiz!

Basically Jalie Blog Tour: Bella Fit and Flare dress

This week it is time for the Basically Jalie Blog tour and a giveaway! For this blog tour it is all about basics. Although a dress might not be a stereotype basic, it is for our eldest. She wears a dress every single day, or at least as often as possible. So I chose the Bella Fit and Flare dress (3460) from Jalie . Read until the end for more details about the giveaway! I love the silhouette of this dress and so does our girl. When she spins around it twirls perfectly. And did you see that lovely back? I finished the back differently. In the pattern they add elastic to finish off the neck. I was lazy and just added a neck binding that I serged to the dress. To accentuate the princess seams I added piping to the front seams. I used the same fabric that I used for the neck binding. Because we are still in winter season I also made a tank top to wear underneath the dress. I used the Raglan Tee, Racerback Tank and Tunics (3245)  from Jalie in the same fabric as the ...

One Thimble 22 blog tour: Piper Pinny dress

My daughter loves twirly dresses and then suddenly during summer we saw this denim dress without any twirl factor and she instantly loves it! Complete mind changer. So when I saw the Piper Pinny in the newest One Thimble 22 *, I knew our girl would just love it. I have a large fabric stash, but besides that I also have a large upcyclying stash. Especially with denim, I just can't let go and feel like I need to save every denim jeans that we have owned in our household. So when I have a denim sewing project I try to use my large pile of old jeans. This pair of jeans comes out of my mother's stash as my stash is in storage due to our upcoming move. I love upcycling because you keep all the cool elements of the original garment. The Piper Pinny is a denim dress with a vintage and a knee length. You can also add a front faux placket, tie straps or buttons and you can use the pattern pieces with or without a centre seam for the front and back. I seam ripped the old jeans th...
